The Americans With Disabilities Act protects people with disabilities from discrimination in the workplace. Many people feel locked out in the workplace because they work for employers who won’t give them the accommodations that they need to do their jobs. Americans with Disabilities Act protects employees from discrimination on the basis of disability, but it also imposes a duty upon their employers to interact with their employees to give them the accommodations they need to perform their jobs. If you work for an employer and you need a wheelchair ramp to access your office. Your employer may have to provide that. But, most importantly your employer should agree to interact with you and discuss with you what they can and can’t provide so that you can do the job that you know you can do. In Alabama you only have six months to report disability discrimination and that’s why it’s very important that you call our office as soon as you encounter a problem with your employer. We can help you craft a chart of discrimination, report the discrimination to H.R. And we’ll be there for you if you get retaliated against after you make your request.
