Family and Medical Leave Act
Transcript
Many people think of the Family and Medical Leave Act as something you take when you have a child. Although that’s covered, there are a variety of illnesses that can be covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act. FMLA covers up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for a serious health condition. You can take that leave all at once or you can take it on a day by day basis as you needed until your health condition resolves. While you’re taking that leave you also have the right to be free from retaliation. That means that the employer has to give you your old job back or something very close to it. And they can’t demote you or fail to promote you or fire you later on because you took the leave that you were due. If you believe that your company is retaliating against you or they won’t give you the leave that you are entitled to. You should call our office. We’ll schedule you for a free consultation and talk to you about how the Family and Medical Leave Act should be protecting you from discrimination in the workplace.
